Status: Currently studying at Hope's Peak Academy as a part of the Reserve Course.
Headcanons:
Hajime's idolization of Hope's Peak comes from his parent's high expectations. They did everything they could to draw out a talent in him since a young age so that he could go to that academy and become successful but it never happened, not even in the Lucky Student lottery. This left Hajime feeling inadequate and desperate. When the Reserve Course opened up he studied day in and day out for the expensive entrance exam and upon passing, his parents dropped big bucks on his tuition fees. (His parents are very well off and prestigious in their fields of expertise.)
Totally naive to how Hope's Peak is using him and his parent's money (Hope's Peak can do no wrong!). In regards to his desire for talent and worth, he is vulnerable to manipulation.
Barely interacts with the other Reserve Course students, let alone the anyone in the Talent Division (my understanding is that the talented students didn't take too well to the Reserve Course Program being implemented). His social life is practically non-existent (any semblance of friends he ever had in the past dropped him for 'paying his way in to Hope's Peak') and he spends a lot of time studying/doing homework.
Hajime isn't great with technology and has a fondness for table top games like Dominoes, Checkers, Clue, Monopoly etc... Opts for television for entertainment when he has time, - typically talk shows and game shows. Not at all up to date with trends or memes or anything like that. Gets teased for being boring and acting like a grumpy old man.
Blunt and kind of quiet. Can come across like he doesn't care or want to be around others but he's actually really soft and a good listener. Riddled with insecurity and low self-esteem. Takes a while to warm up.
He wears glasses during dedicated study sessions to help with eye strain from working late into the night.
Hajime was raised to be very independent, so he's become used to doing things on his own. While his parents help a lot financially and are heavily strict on his studies, they're not very present emotionally or otherwise as they're far too absorbed in their own work (as he got older and his chances at getting a talent waned, the distance grew). The most common interaction between Hajime and his parents is him getting scolded for any number of reasons, mostly 'slacking'. The praise he does receive is treasured and he lives constantly striving for their approval.
While he does have a room at the school's dorms, he's expected to visit home regularly to prove to his parents that he's working hard enough and bringing in proper results to make sure he's not 'wasting their money'. Sometimes this means staying home days at a time studying.
Even with those in the Talent Division he gets close to, he can't shake the feeling that he is less worthy because he's talentless.
He's often dense or stubborn with taking compliments. He also has never thought about romance for himself and is completely naive in that entire area. To flirt with him would be like flirting with a brick wall.

Hajime's first real friend. While Chiaki likes to tease him, her warmth and kindness makes Hajime feel at ease. Sometimes being with her even makes him forget about things like being talented or talentless - then other times he's stuck on wondering why she likes to hang out with someone 'like him'.
He would like to become closer friends with Chiaki, and learn more about her. As it stands, he admires and respects her a lot and wishes for her to be happy. Even if that means letting her name a worm on a string 'Hinata Jr.' after him.
